Saturday shopping

Shopping on the weekend is pretty normal for people, I think.

This is what's still surprising to me.

Go where?

Thought I was near the dark blue pin. Nope. The lighter blue dot near the top is where I actually am...about 10 minutes off course. Augh!

Let's go!

I'm all packed and ready to leave Rumoi. It has been great, Rumoi!

In Rumoi: Day 2

Well, today was a long day, but it was pretty good. I got to be carried around Rumoi by my servant, and we finished the day in a really relaxing coffee shop.

Liz was excited to get some crazily flavored Choconut cappuccino. I think it is chocolate and coconut flavored. You know Americans and their coffees. I told her that she was probably going to regret having coffee at 8pm, but she came up with some theory about how the milk and sugary syrup displaces most of the coffee. Mmmmhmmm. We'll see what she says at midnight. She was pretty starry-eyed over the cafe with jazz music, flavored coffee, and snazzy decor.

I stuck to water and a little dark chocolate. Trust me, you don't want to see what happens when I have coffee after lunch.

We've both got another big day tomorrow, and I think it is going to be a lot of fun.

Good night, all!

First night

Hi, folks! Kori here, coming to you live from our hotel in Rumoi.

We arrived in Rumoi a little after 6:30. It was dark and drizzly. Getting off a bus in a strange city after dark is a really odd feeling. Not bad! I think I would describe it as disorienting. It actually took me a while to think of that. I'm glad I was around to protect Liz, though.

We had a pretty good map, so we found the hotel without incident. I just hope we can find our way back to the bus.

It's a great hotel, I think! The room is just my size!

Liz was kind of hungry after we checked in, so she headed out to get some dinner. I wasn't hungry. As usual, I was stuffed. That's a joke we plush toys like to toss around. I stayed behind to get some work done, as you can see. Here's a pic of Liz's dinner as well. She was especially excited about the watermelon.

Well, tomorrow's a big day, so it is time to get in some quality hibernation. Good night, all!

Off to Rumoi

Hey, folks! Kori here. Today, I'm off to Rumoi City, on the west coast of Hokkaido. I've never been to Rumoi before, but now I'm on my way to a seminar for junior high school English teachers.

I hope I will be able to use my vast bear expertise to help them with any problems they may be facing. It's a big job, and I'm just a little bear, but I'm ready for anything.

Oh, I'm also taking Liz along with me. She's good company and good at carrying the luggage.

Hope everyone out there is having lots of fun!

Exploring Horonobe: Relax Bear, meet Relax Cow

I decided to go exploring this weekend. Sometimes, I like to choose a local train stop and explore the area around it. I wanted to choose a stop I'd never been to before, so the lucky station was Yasuushi, 3 stops past Horonobe. It is about an hour and 10 minutes from my house.

I chose Yasuushi because the kanji that make the name make me smile. They can be read in English one way as Relax Cow. Heeheehee.

Of course, Rilakkuma means Relax Bear, so Kori was also excited to visit this stop.

We didn't see many cows, though. I guess they were all off relaxing.

It turned out to be the perfect day for exploring. Lots of fluffy white clouds and a great temperature. I got eaten by skeeters, but Kori was fine.

There are several new posts below this one. I actually blogged the day backwards, so if you are just getting here, please keep reading!

Now, it's time for me to go finish packing for a seminar this week. I have no idea what I'm going to wear!

Exploring: Off roading

As I was walking, I came to a very tempting side road. So, I headed down to explore a little ways.

I passed a farm, and the road kept going.

Just a little more...

The little more turned into a few hours. It was so lovely and remote back on the woods. But I was worried about getting eaten by a bear. I put on my bear bell, and I didn't see any bears, so it must have worked. Hahahaha.

Exploring: Field day

Along the way, I came to a big empty field far from the road. There were lots of wildflowers, and Kori and I took the opportunity for a nice long break. I think this was where I got eaten alive by mosquitoes. Itchy.

Exploring Horonobe, the final part

Ok, I'm now going backwards through yesterday's trip, but why not?

The final segment of my trip was a four mile hike along the road to Horonobe. It was still quite pretty, though. The clouds were fluffy, the sky was blue, and I could even see Rishiri. The pic with Rishiri and the sea was from the train home. The other one was from my walk.

The shoes are me standing on the 45 degree line. I like that crossing, for some reason.

The other pics are just things along my walk. :-D
