Wakkanai to Teshio

Well, here we are on day 25, I think. It's hard to keep track!

I got up early this morning and went to Banka, my favorite coffee shop. I wanted to see the owner, but still come back in time for games before my train at 10:56.
The owner was surprised to see me, an we had a nice quick chat.
Here's the Wakkanai wind going after my hair. You can see how tired I was this morning!
Although the train was a little crowded, the bus was...not.

I played around with camera functions.
It was a lovely afternoon in Teshio. Cloudy, but cool. We ate lunch on the deck, rode bikes, ate dessert, baked cakes for a party on Monday, and I learned to make a Japanese dish I've been wanting to try.
It was a great day. Sigh.

Yet another day of delight

Today was a lovely day. It included park golf and a deer on the course, introducing Boggle, and dinner with an old friend. Oh, and octopus. :-)

As my feet walk these familiar paths, I have a peculiar sense of being home, and yet being separated.

I've probably said this before, but in Japanese, you can say "Natsukashii!" when you are feeling nostalgic about something.

My old neighborhood:

Riding the bus was really natsukashii, but I didn't take a picture.

Lunch with Wakkanai ALTs at the udon shop that serves the best kitsune udon (haven't had one that measures up yet):

Taking silly pictures;
Wakkanai milk soft serve ice cream:
I must stop eating so much soft serve ice cream. On the other hand, I've heard it's really good in my next location...

Had some free time, went to the gym and used the pool.
I have to do something to combat the ice cream!

The day ended with Hanabi - not actual fireworks, but the game. It's fun to try communicating with different people.

It was a cool and misty day, but I enjoyed it so much!

In a strange twist, I left Wakkanai on August 4, 2014 and returned on August 4, 2015. I didn't plan that!
Today was a good day of being back in Wakkanai and feeling so nostalgic. I stopped by the high school and chatted with some teachers.

Sigh. Good to be back.

Nayoro Adventure

For the last few days, I have been visiting friends in Nayoro.

Nayoro is a pretty little city!
It's in a valley surrounded by low mountains.
And wildlife...
And homemade ice cream.
In other news, today is my Japan-niversary! Six years ago today, I arrived in Japan. I never guessed then that I would be here now!

I like you, Japan! Here's my old friend:
