Another bizarrely wonderful day

Today was a weird and wonderful day.

I joined up with a ton of other teachers from different campuses in Nagoya.

Here we are!
Oh, what a lovely room!

Hey, what's going on?

What's going on, you ask? Well, we all went to a disaster prevention center for training. This room shook to simulate an earthquake, and we had to hide under the table. It was rather violent, and I worried that I was going to knock heads with my fellow teachers.

Another training exercise was for fire. We had to go through a dark and smoky fire maze that had locked doors and tricky turns. My group was the first to go through, and we all just hung on to each other for dear life!

We also learned about tsunamis, typhoons, and the rainy season. It was quite educational.

Finally, we got to dress up for our new jobs! OK, maybe not!

Every day is weird

Today was a review day, and we did several team challenges. As rewards, students earned pieces of these puzzles.
I know you want one.
In other news, it started raining this afternoon. I keep hearing about a rainy season - maybe this is it!

The life of a teacher

Some days are robot mask days.
I actually had a very good reason for this!

Spellcheck wanted to change weeknights to wee knights, but I decided against it.

I don't usually do much on weeknights here in Nagoya.

Actually, my weeknights are boring enough that I can't think of any good examples! On a big night, I get home early enough to go to the grocery store!

It's not bad, though. I like pouring myself into work. But I wish the weekends were longer!

We made these in class yesterday! Bizarre, hey?

Morning Commute

Now, I make the same trip to school every day. It's not as exciting as commuting by sea, but it does have its moments.

First, I pedal to the station and park my bike underground. This is my new spot!

Then, I join the gathering hordes and get on the subway. I couldn't get a picture because a weird man was in the way!

Several of us pour off the subway at the same time. People tend to get all glommed up trying to get off of the platform.
Here we all are.

After I disentangle myself from my friends, I make my way out of the station
Ah, fresh air!

The hill to school tends to be crowded, so I sneak up to the top through the back way.
Into the light!

The back way to school is much quieter.
The escalator leads through greenery.

Finally, I arrive at school!

Then, it's time to cool off and get ready for teaching.

Happy June!

I would say that I can't believe it's already June, but it's pretty hot here in Nagoya. It's definitely a far cry from 5 years of cool Wakkanai summers. Actually, the heat took me by surprise on Saturday, and I got a little sick. But I have learned my lesson!

Hmm, anything exciting around here lately? Let me check my pictures.
Here's a picture I took while sick from the heat. I don't know why it's sideways.
This is another one. I was fascinated by the way the molding went on forever.

I do miss having beautiful commutes to share with you. I'll have to look for the beauty in the everyday.

Maybe a little more heat exhaustion will help! Lol!
