So, tomorrow is my first race since ye olde knee injury. It's 5K, which should be pretty do-able. I'm not going to be the fastest one out there by any stretch, though.
I got my race number in the mail and was surprised to see that I was #9. Usually, my numbers are 4 digits. So I flipped through the race booklet to see how many people would be running.
There are eight women running in the 5K. Yup. But don't worry, I won't be lonely out there. Besides the men's division, which has a whole 23 people running, there will be a group of 5th and 6th graders and...493 junior highers. Yes, 493 middle schoolers. This should be very interesting. I have no idea if all of them are running of their own volition or not - sometimes students have to enter these sorts of things anyway. So, it should be quite an experience out there!
Now, since some of them will be my students in April, maybe I should introduce myself while we are running.
"In tonight's local news, the 5K world record was broken numerous times by local students. Word is, they were on the run from an English speaker."
